According to this article from AdvancedRestorationVA.com, Virginia has recently passed a law regulating the state’s mold remediation industry. The Virginia Board of Asbestos, Lead, and Home Inspectors will now be known as the Virginia Board of Asbestos, Lead, Mold, and Home Inspectors and will add an eleventh member, a licensed mold inspector or remediator. Other members of the board represent asbestos contractors, lead abatement specialists, risk assessors, certified general home inspectors and citizen members.
The newest member appointed to the board, the mold inspector or mold remediator, will have practiced as an inspector or remediator for at least three consecutive years before appointment.
The board, which will meet at least four times a year, will be in charge of making any necessary revisions concerning the licensing of mold remediation professionals in Virginia. The board will “promulgate regulations for licensing of mold inspectors and mold remediators consistent with this chapter regarding the professional qualifications of such applicants, the requirements necessary for passing applicable examinations in whole or in part, the proper conduct of its examinations, the proper conduct of the mold inspectors and mold remediators licensed by the board, the implementation of exemptions from licensure requirements, and the proper discharge of its duties.”
Additionally, the board will have the discretion to impose different requirements for licensure for the performance of mold inspectors and mold remediators.
